The DAISY Award
Nurses every day go above and beyond to not only provide patients and families with excellence in clinical care but also compassion. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers. It was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Any licensed, registered nurse, nursing faculty or nursing student is eligible to be nominated for a DAISY Award. The nominations are blinded and sent to an internal committee at the participating organization. The committee reads and scores the nominations using criteria that focus on compassion and fit the mission and values of each organization.
The BEE Award
The BEE Award (Being Exceptional Every Day) is awarded to non-nursing staff at Hocking Valley Community Hospital who provide extraordinary care and support to team members and patients. Just as the daisy cannot survive without the bee, exceptional care depends on teamwork. These staff members demonstrate the ICARE values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect and excellence.
